TOY RUN BEFORE THE RAINS - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2008
Anacortes Elks #1204 is located at 1009 - 7th Street, half a block WEST of Commercial Avenue downtown. Coming into Anacortes on Highway 20, do NOT go toward Whidbey Island, but keep coming into Anacortes the town. You can take a right on "R" Avenue, which is the light as you are coming into town. "R" becomes "Q" - take a left on 7th Street. Cross over Commercial Avenue and you will see the Elks on your left, southside of the street. IF you come all the way to Commercial instead of going right at the light, you still take a right onto Commercial, but you get to go through all the stop lights, instead of just one. Either way take a left onto 7th Street. We can't wait to see you!!! Longhorn Saloon & Grill in Bow/Edison is where Bowhill Road off I-5 intersects Farm To Market Road from Highway 20. You can't miss it, because there are these huge long horns on the top of the building. It is located right in the corner of town. Steve and his crew, Alex and Ashley, are geared up with great food and brew for you! THE OLD Elks building at 2111 Riverside Drive holds Christ The King and they have been gracious enough to allow us to deal out our poker cards there! It is located right next to the new Elks building which is just off Market Street in Mount Vernon. Make sure you stop in there for snacks, coffee, tea, and you might be surprised with a CONTEST!!! Mike will be there to greet you until 5 p.m. Big Rock Cafe & Grocery is located where College Way in Mount Vernon meets Highway 9 at one of those new-fangled roundabouts south of Clear Lake (south of Sedro-Woolley). Cody and Casey Audette want you to know they have breakfast all day and on tap beer and wine! If you can't find it there, you don't need it! Highway 9 north out of Sedro-Woolley, take a left at Park Road (after Wickersham) and 4 miles later you'll find Park, WA, and Scooter Stuff. Shell, a very recent widow, depends on you wonderful bikers to help her make it through the winter each year. She will have some great coffee and you need to rest a bit on Bob's bench - let her tell you the story. And the last time I was in there, there was a chopper parked inside the store - you got to see it. Back on Highway 9 north of Park Road about 1.5 miles is Acme, with a great restaurant, the Blue Mountain Grill. Colleen will be there to help you with the poker run. I suggest the chicken pot pie or their curly fries. $5 burger, million dollar view, and billion dollar people, Barb and Ava, make this a mighty fine establishment. Last but never least, Jennifer at the Bellingham Elks #194 will greet you with a smile. This Elks Club is located at 710 Samish Way. Going north on Intertstate 5 you take Exit 252, Samish Way, and at the stop sign take a right and the Elks is right there. Park up top, take the stairs down to the club door. She'll probably have some great sandwiches waiting for you. If you don't take the freeway, you can come up Samish Way from Lake Samish by taking Old Highway 99 to Nulle Road and just keep going north. You'll cross over the freeway, keep going... if you get to Lakeway, you've just passed it. Turn around and go back about a quarter of a mile. If you come from Lakeway, well, there are so many ways to get there, check the map. OR . . . RIDE WITH SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHERE THEY ARE GOING, what am I your mother? Oops, sorry, must be 2 a.m. in the morning. I honestly don't mean to be irreverent, but sometimes I get that biker humor thing going, you know - or is that a sarcastic musician, not sure... must have read too much Spider in the biker mags when I was younger. WARNING - WARNING - WARNING
Construction Alerts
- Highway 9 coming into Sedro-Woolley from the north has a poorly marked lane change and several metal plates on the road. Please be cautious in this area. - South Bay Drive going into Park from the Lake Whatcom area still has a little bit of gravel over that last short bridge, but that is all. They've really improved that area since September.Weather Alerts
- RAIN and LEAVES make for slippery highways. If it is raining, well, be careful. We are planning on saying a prayer for the riders early on at the Elks, as on our last run in June one of our best went head-on into a motorhome (he survived, but...). We don't want that to happen ever again, so please join us in prayer as we hit the highway and NOT the pavement. Please get back to the Anacortes Elks by 6 p.m. for the Poker Draw - if you get back earlier, you will enjoy food, and some music, a raffle, and we will even finish up the contest that starts at Christ the King in the old Mount Vernon Elks.
